– The Eagles, Take It Easy

This was our last day as evacuees. The next morning, we would return home. And so, this evening, we climbed into my cousin’s pickup truck and went in search of windmills.

When we reached the road that led to our destination, I got out and climbed in the bed of the truck. As they drove along, I snapped shots, experimenting with shutter speeds and enjoying the sunset. I loved feeling the wind on my face and watching the dust dance behind us from the gravel road below.

Everything felt so good right then…so open…and amazing…and free. As the first star broke through the night sky, I marveled at the magnificence of things that are far too big for me to completely grasp.

Like hurricanes.

And windmills.

And God.
