stand next to me
with our backs to the wall
and slide down
until we hit the ground
leaning
on the wall
on each other
just a little
not enough
to make it weird
hold my hand
for five minutes
hold my hand
just a little
not enough
to make it weird
and breathe
breathe a little
close our eyes
and relax
and for five minutes
dont worry
about anything
dont talk
dont laugh
dont judge
dont try to draw lines
where there are none
dont try to make sense
of something
we can’t understand
just hold my hand
and we’ll close our eyes
and breathe
i’ll push my shoes off
you’ll leave yours on
and for five minutes
and for five minutes
our eyes are closed
our hands are warm
and we’ll love
each other
just a little…
…not enough
to make it weird.

I’ve read a fair amount of bad poetry in writer’s groups. This isn’t that. I paints a picture. It captures a mood and it isn’t in clunky rhyming couplets. Apparently one more thing you’re good at.
Oh my gosh I LOVE this. LOVE IT. I actually felt like I was sliding down….and I’m pretty sure my heart stopped.
